This license is specifically for engineers \u2013 for people whose \u201cprincipal business is in connection with fixed works requiring specialized engineering knowledge and skill.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need a Class A license if your business involves specialized engineering knowledge in areas such as: irrigation, drainage, harbors, hydroelectric projects, airports, tunnels, bridges, parks, streets, sewage, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Class A license is for engineers who have a 4-year degree in engineering. You must still fulfill all the other obligations of the other CSLB licenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Class B &#8211; General Building Contractor<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most popular of all the CSLB licenses, the Class B General Building Contractor License is for any contractor whose business involves building homes or shelters for people, animals or other property.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Class B license is required for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone building a structure built as a home or other shelter for people, animals or property<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any construction of a structure involving at least two trades<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jobs over $500<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A person with a Class B License can:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oversee full construction of structures designed for shelter of people, animals, or property<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perform any carpentry or framing work<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Subcontract out trade work<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A person with a Class B License cannot:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a contract for trade work involving anything other than framing or carpentry <\/span><b>unless<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it involves two unrelated trades other than framing or carpentry<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take any subcontract for trade work involving trades other than carpentry or framing, <\/span><b>unless<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the subcontract requires two unrelated trades other than carpentry or framing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Class B-2 &#8211; Residential Remodeling Contractor<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Class B-2 contract is very similar to the Class B contract, but it is for people whose sole business is remodeling, or as the CSLB puts it: \u201ca contractor whose contracting business is\u2026to make improvements on or in an existing residential wood frame structure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Class B-2 License is required for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone who does remodeling of existing structures as their primary business<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jobs over $500<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A person with a Class B-2 License can:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work on any remodeling project involving three unrelated building trades<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take prime contracts for trades or crafts such as drywall, flooring, siding, painting and so no.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-perform or subcontract any trades out to licensed subcontractors<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A person with a Class B-2 License cannot:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work on any job that requires a build from scratch \u2013 it must be remodeling<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work on any remodeling jobs that require less than 3 unrelated trades<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do fire protection, asbestos abatement, or well drilling work without the appropriate specialty license<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Class C &#8211; Specialty Contractor\u2019s License<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Class C license from the CSLB is required for anyone whose operations require special skills and whose contracting business requires the use of these specialized building skills. There are currently 65 different specialties that require a Class C license.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Essentially, you need a Class C license if you are a specialty tradesperson as your primary contracting business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you perform any specialized work in the following trades, you need a Class C License from the CSLB:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insulation and acoustical<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boiler, Hot-Water Heating, and Steam Fitting<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Framing and Rough Carpentry<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cabinet, Millwork, and Finish Carpentry<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Low Voltage Systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Concrete<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drywall<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electrical<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elevator<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"
