What to Expect on Exam Day

The California contractor license exam is administered at PSI testing centers throughout California. You'll take a computer-based test in a quiet, climate-controlled room with morning and afternoon sessions available. Plan to arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

Bring two forms of valid ID (at least one with a photo), along with your PSI confirmation number. Personal items like phones, notes, and calculators are not permitted in the testing room — a basic on-screen calculator is provided. We recommend bringing a light jacket since testing rooms can be cool.

The Law & Business exam gives you 2 hours for 115 questions. Your trade-specific exam typically allows 2.5 hours, with the number of questions varying by classification.
